ASSAM

Assam is a land of rich cultural diversity and enchanting natural beauty. In Assam one sees a harmonious blend of cultures, colourful tribes and sub tribes and warm hearted people inhabiting the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra. Bihu is one of the major festivals of Assam celebrated under different names by different groups of people. Assam is known all over the world as a land of tea. The endless miles of tea estates, the vibrant tea tribes, the old banglows of the British era blend memories of the past to make Assam a nostalgic destination for many. Assam was the first destination of the Salesian Sisters in North East India. They reached Guwahati in 1923. Today they work in 13 centres spread across the length and breadth of the state carrying out a variety of services.
